For my Final major project I wanted to portray my skills as a creative costume maker and designer. I chose to re design costumes for the characters from the story of 'The Nutcracker'. I didn't want to just create ballet costumes that the Nutcracker is most famously known as. I wanted to design costumes based on my own unique concept, I chose to mix 19th century style with gothic punk. I created a range of costume designs based on this theme. I thoroughly studied the text of the first two original stories of the Nutcracker; 'The Nutcracker and the Mouse King' by E.T.A Hoffman and 'The Tale of the Nutcracker' by Alexandre Dumas. I looked at key words and descripiton within the stories to understand the characters. I chose to design costumes for The Nutcracker and the young girl Marie.
